Peggy's block. She will collect any completed blocks to be put together for a charity quilt.
Quilter in the spotlight for February: Diane!
Diane started quilting when she was gifted these blocks made by her grandmother. It was around 1995. She took a class at quilts etc., put the quilt together and was hooked.
Star quilt by Diane. She said that she would like to learn how to design paper pieced patterns
Diane saw a picture she liked and drafted her own pattern to make this quilt. It was her husbands favorite quilt!
February's Trip Around the World took us to Panama. Vanessa showed us examples of Molas owned by her mom.
She also gave us a lot of information about the Cuna Indians in Panama who make these colorful molas.
Vanessa learned how to do a modified mola technique in another group
Knit fabric is placed over a colorful fabric and then the design is cutaway. Big stitch is use to stitch the design down
Some more fun examples
The backs look great too!
Vanessa and Peggy made needle kits for all the members. These will be used to house the needles we need for various projects throughout the year. Large needles were included for members to get started on their own mola samples. Pearl cotton was provided by Vanessa.
