April In The Time Of Social Distancing

Hi Everyone,
Because of not being able to meet in person, Cathie and I(Jill) thought we would keep in touch with all of you via the blog. We will be updating as photos and information comes in. So check back to see what our members are accomplishing.

First let's start with Cathie. This brave lady has been following along with the Edyta Sitar Mystery Quilt. A big undertaking of 60 six inch blocks. Here's a sneak peak.

Tracy M. reports that she is still going into hospital daily but has to wear masks and eye protection. She wants to encourage everyone to stay at home when possible until this whole thing is over. Here are the projects she is working on after work and on days off.

Shelley's lovely projects.
Hi everyone!  Here are some masks made by Shelley. She has made around 30 and handed them out to family members. She says the CDC has recommended we all wear them in pubic. The rest will be donated to one of the UQG's list of care centers that have requested them.

Barbara has been busy.
Here is an orphan block quilt completed by Barbara.  She showed the top in February, then someone quilted it and she just finished up the binding.
Barbara has been making masks for family.  She came up with her own version of the pattern.

Cut 2 pieces of quilters cotton 6 x 9.. With right sides out, pin in 3 horizontal pleats and attach two pieces of narrow elastic ( 7").  Serge around the edges keeping pins out of serger path. ( I prefer to keep the elastic free and slip it into place as I sew.)  Fold back elastic loops and top stitch for reinforcement.

Diane E's project.
Diane E.'s crayon embroidery for her grand daughter.

Betty G. has been very busy! Thanks Betty for sharing these lovely projects.

Queen Quilt- Betty's sister made some of the blocks, then Betty made more and put them all together.

Two pillowcase kits finished.

The guild held a meeting via zoom on April 16th. It was nice to talk with some of the members and it sounded like there is a lot of mask making going on.
