| This unusual looking item is an antique needle holder for a store display. Customers would select the needle they wanted to buy by spinning the dial and then taking out the size of needle they needed. |

| January's meeting was filled with antique sewing machines and accessories to look at brought by member Leanna. |

| She had everything from a hand pinker that works, hemming devices, old buttonholers and a third hand or sewing bird, used when hand piecing. She told us that early zig zaggers actually moved the fabric from side to side to accomplish the zig zag stitch! |

| She brought part of her large collection of items ranging from toy sewing machines to adult machines, |

| First off, Virginia showed the opportunity quilt that will be raffled off on National Quilt Day in March. She also handed out flyers so we can get this day on our schedules. For those of you who have gone in the past, you know it is a lot of fun! |

| Leanna then started the presentation and told us how she began her collection and many interesting facts and history about the items. It is one of her passions. She loves to "rescue" old machines. She is very knowledgeable and both buys, sells and repairs the machines. |

| In addition to this store display she also showed us old seam rippers and needle threaders and a rare early walking foot called "the penguin". Many thanks to Leanna for hauling all these things for us to see and for explaining the history behind them. |
