October 2011 Meeting

Last night was our October meeting. Because many of our members were attending a retreat, we decided to do something different. A wonderful lady, Pat Moseman, is responsible for a program called "Home of the Brave". They give a quilt to each family of a fallen Utah soldier. Pat came to our guild with cut out blocks and even some sewn blocks and we did what we could to help get a few quilts together. We brought sewing machines and other supplies and went to work. We started at around 5:00 p.m. and worked until nearly 9:00 p.m. Here are some pictures of us hard at work.

You will notice that we also had some very young helpers. Kari brought her lovely daughters, Emma and Isabelle. They very kindly helped cut threads and press. We were provided with some yummy pizza, complements of the guild, and some wonderful cookies, complements of our president, Tina.
Now to the fruits of our labors. The first photo is Tina, modeling a completed row of blocks. Then on to some more serious pictures of completed blocks and finally a completed top and the proud seamstress, Gina, and fearless leader of the program, Pat Moseman.

Thank you so much ladies for all your hard work!!! Hopefully we will have some pictures and a full report of activities at the retreat!

September 2011 Meeting

Dianne and Sandy, two of our very talented members, created this basket for the 2011 Quilt Festival hosted by the Utah Quilt Guild. As you can see, it is so outstanding that it took a first place ribbon at the Salt Lake County Fair. Thank you so much ladies for your wonderful work!
Tina showed us the block she has made for the Home of the Brave project. Because our next meeting and our quilt retreat coincide, we will will have work meeting for those not attending the retreat. It will begin at 5:00 p.m. and we will be bringing our sewing machines and doing whatever is needed to complete some of the quilts.
Kathy, Jill, Ruth, and Barbara brought their September(presented in August) blocks to share with everyone. Good work ladies.
Now on to sharing! Enjoy the eye candy!!!! Be sure to click on the pictures if you would like to see close ups!

We also had one project presented for this years UFO challenge.

Challenge Quilt Meeting

Greater Salt Lake Area Quilt Chapter hosted our annual challenge meeting again this year. Thank you so much for letting us share our quilts with you! This years challenge had to included at least four snail trail blocks and had to be completed this year. We had nine ladies finish challenge quilts.
Winner of the Challenge will be announced at our regular guild meeting Thursday, September 8th.
Linda gave an interesting history of the the snail trail block and asked that any members that had quilts they had made in the past or any unfinished quilts that included snail trail blocks to bring the quilts and share. Here are some of the amazing quilts, finished and unfinished.

We also had some lovely show and tell. Enjoy!
